There were 16 members and some of their family members present at the July meeting at Williamson Brothers Bar-B-Q in Canton, GA. After dinner, Vice President Chris Ehlbeck conducted the business meeting and among the items discussed were:
See you on the road and at the Tilted Kilt in August!
On June 5th & 6th, 2010, a group of members from Blue Knights Georgia VI rode up to Maggie Valley, NC on Saturday and stayed at the Jonathan Creek Inn. It was a small group totaling 5 motorcycles and seven people. Once there we relaxed on the deck overlooking the creek behind the hotel. On Sunday we had a hearty breakfast before heading for the Blue Ridge Parkway. When we were leaving the Jonathan Creek Inn the temperatures were in the mid 70’s but once we got up the Blue Ridge Parkway it had dropped to a low of 58! We also found that when we got up to around 6,000 feet that we were in the clouds. That right, not fog but were in the clouds. Now technically, fog and clouds are the same thing but these were definitely clouds. We also had on and off rain. It was a great ride even with the clouds and the rain.
How many of you have actually seen a groundhog in the wild? Well we saw two over the course of the weekend. We saw one trying to cross the road Saturday in Georgia and one on Sunday walking along the road in North Carolina.
We ended up riding 395 miles total on the trip and had nearly 8 and a half hours of riding time over 2 days.
On May 12, 2010, Blue Knights Georgia Chapter VI rode to the local Ronald McDonald House and put on a cookout for the families and children staying there while be treated at nearby hospitals. It was a great spring evening to this. As soon as we arrived, kids immediately came out to greet us and look at the motorcycles. They also helped carry supplies into the house! Thanks to Barbara, Susan and others (whose names escape us at the moment) for organizing the kitchen and kicking the men out. Thanks to Chef David for once again cooking up all those hamburgers, hot dogs and this time chicken ka-bobs. And especially to Bill for again organizing this event. The Blue Knights, kids and parents all enjoyed the cookout. After dinner the kids (and their parents) couldn’t wait to get outside to look at and site on the motorcycles.
The Ronald McDonald House Charities provide a home away from home for families while children are being treated at nearby hospitals. This is the second time we have hosted a cookout there and this is the second time that families have let us know how much it means to them. They’re staying at the house because someone is not healthy but the cookout gives them some time to have fun. It’s worth it to see the smiles on the kids faces and to see the smiles on the parent’s faces too. As one parent said “It’s not like bringing back takeout or eating leftovers. For a little while we get to have fun and not think about why we’re here.”
Saturday was a beautiful day for a ride. Chapter Vice President Chris Ehlbeck organized a ride and today was the day. The plan was to meet at Rider’s Hill in Dahlonega and ride to Blairsville where we’d have lunch. We had 6 motorcycles and 8 people show up for the ride. It was about 70 degrees with a nearly cloudless, bright blue sky. Taking the direct route, Dahlonega and Blairsville on not really that far apart. But we took the long way for a nice 74 mile trip. One question that was asked a few times was “How did you come up with that route? It was great!” There were even requests for the route to be emailed. After lunch our little group broke up and headed our separate ways home. It was a wonderful day to get out and ride with good friends!
